Welcome to Hamline University FYSEM Fall 2022 Copy

At Hamline University we are constantly looking for ways to create more value for our students.  How can we better equip our students for successful careers and lives?

This fall we have planned a couple FYSEM’s to place additional emphasis on elevating the personal and professional relationship building skills of our students.

Through out this FYSEM this semester we will provide the PRISM Networking platform. The instruction, including exercises and activities are designed to elevate booth the skill and confidence students will need in order to successfully build important relationships. You will be given the PRISM Networking platform to manage the relationships you build this semester and for the balance of your time as a Hamline University Piper. You will have access to all of this data after your graduation.

Through out this semester we will ask you to participate in several confidential surveys sharing important things such as; sense of belonging, loneliness and anxiety.  At the end of the semester, we will map this data to important academic achievements such as retention and GPA.

This is a real study where we will be comparing your sentiments and achievements with students who do not participate in this relationship building course.

As an introduction to this course please watch this brief video.

What makes a good life? Lessons from the longest study on happiness

What keeps us happy and healthy as we go through life? If you think it’s fame and money, you’re not alone – but, according to psychiatrist Robert Waldinger, you’re mistaken. As the director of a 80 plus year-old study on adult development, Waldinger has unprecedented access to data on true happiness and satisfaction. In this talk, he shares three important lessons learned from the study as well as some practical, old-as-the-hills wisdom on how to build a fulfilling, long life.
