Create Your Branding Statement

Time Investment:  2  hours

Remember, a Personal Brand is simply your story…so, what is your story? Your personal brand is the unique combination of skills, experience, and personality that you want others to see. It is the story of who you are, what you do and the value you create.

In our lesson materials, we have a Personal Branding Statement Worksheet to help you start defining your brand. As you ponder, reflect, and answer these questions about yourself, you will be creating a colorful palette of ways in which to see yourself and market yourself. In the end, you will have a better idea of how to describe yourself which identifies what you are passionate about.

Get feedback from others.

Pick 8-10 people who you feel know you and ask them to answer several questions that help you to see how others see you. It is a great idea to ask people who know you only professionally, some who know you only personally, and some who know you both professionally and personally. Call this market research. Feel free to use the personal branding worksheet in the course materials.

  • In this process, you may be surprised by some of the things you discover. You may find out people think differently about you than you thought. If you are pleased with this, great. If not,  you may discover where you have some gaps to fill. We think this is not only a valuable step but a necessary step.
  • While performing this activity you will be gathering feedback from a few people in your network. This is the perfect opportunity to ask some of these contacts if they would like to go through this exercise with you and work on their own branding statement.
