This is the first face-to-face or interactive meeting. The purpose of this session is for the mentee to share their experience and what they are expecting to get out of the mentorship. Sharing your experience is an important part of building an authentic relationship because your story matters. The mentor and mentee can discuss specific needs of the mentee (i.e. they would like more guidance on benefits, need help with finding a career path for them, or are seeking a community, etc.). It is the mentee’s responsibility to share what they hope to gain from the relationship.
Tasks:
- Develop an “Ideal Job Description”
- A resume describes your past, an “Ideal Job Description” states what you want to do next in your career.
- Homework Standout 2.0 book and complete assessment
- Discover the top two personal traits or characteristics that “give you energy”
- Establish the bottom two personal traits or characteristics that “drain” you.
- Have the mentee decide where they think they are the best fit.
Tips:
- An “Ideal Job Description” is to think about what gives the mentee energy. In other words, what do you enjoy doing that you could potentially work into your everyday life? In military members, it is not uncommon for someone to want to continue to serve, in some way.
