Successful Transition From Service to Civilian

A PRISM Mentoring Series for Transitioning Military Veterans

Purpose-Audience

The purpose of this series is to have a process to guide military members through their transition into civilian life. This series will help transitioning military members navigate their opportunities for medical, education, and career decisions, as well as develop the person as a whole to be equipped for civilian life. PRISM Networking is aware that many military transition programs do not provide the resources and structure needed to transition successfully, and we built this series to serve those who have served us.

The Expected Investment:

This series is designed to be 9-12 weeks, but you are able to extend their engagement if desired.

Mentor and mentee will each invest about 20 minutes in a pre-mentoring exercise.  There will be 6-9 engagements between the mentor and mentee.  This first session will likely require the largest time commitment. It is most beneficial if this first session is conducted in person.  Following the initial session, it is estimated that the Mentoring pair will have 6-9 additional interactions of about 30 minutes each.  The mentee may have been given exercises by the mentor to be completed between engagements.

The Outcomes:

  • The transitioning military member will have formed a valuable relationship.
  • The transitioning military member will learn lessons from someone who has traveled a similar path.
  • The transitioning military member will gain more clarity about their benefits.
  • The transitioning military member will gain more confidence in discussing his or her experience/career with others.
  • The transitioning military member will have gained additional introductions to build their network and gain a new community.
  • The transitioning military member will be able to map out their purpose.
