Session 7: Interviews & Making Introductions Copy

Lesson
Materials

This session is focused on interviewing skills. Eventually, you may be connecting with professionals that someone has given you an introduction to. During this session, the mentor will help you practice interviewing and share their expertise. You may consider using the techniques and skills you learn during this session to interview your partner/friend/parent/sibling to get comfortable with the interview process. The more you practice, the more natural it will become.

Tasks:

  1. Discuss and practice interviewing with the mentor.
  2. Construct your elevator pitch (2-3 minutes).
  3. Practice interviewing with an adult you feel comfortable with.
  4. Follow-up and schedule your next mentoring session.

Tips:

  1. If your mentor wants to introduce you to someone in their network, it is crucial to remember that you will be a reflection of them, and they are trusting you and believe that you are going to be professional and upright. If you are introduced to someone by your mentor, this is great for practicing your interview skills.
